Gustav A, age 85 of 1506 21st St. NW, passed away Thursday morning in Timken Mercy hospital of complications following a 10 month illness. Born in Lienen, Germany, he came to Canton Ohio in October of 1926. He retired Jun 30, 1960 (???) from the Timken Co. where he had worked for 32 years. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Men s Bible Class and sang in the church choir for 52 years. He was a member of the Central Singer Bezirk, Arion Singing Socienty, Swiss Alpenroslie, Men s Swiss Sick Benefit Society, Deutcher Sangerbund, and A.A.R.P. Chaper No. 316. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elvira Alteholz of the home; a sister, Mrs. Ernst (Luise) Sander, and a brother, Fritz Alteholz of Lienen, Germany. Services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in First United Church of Christ with Rev Paul Carmany oficiating. Burial in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Friday (today) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and at the church one hour before services. Canton Men's Swiss Sick benefits will hold services at 6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may have memorials sent to his church. (Reed, 477-6721)

# Note: Nash "Skip" Uebelhart recalls: I remember Gus well. He was from Germany and fought against the US (Allies) in WWI. My family visited him and his wife often when I was growing up. Gus always seemed good-natured, on the jovial side. I never saw him mad. I believe he passed away with cancer of the kidney. He and Elvira never had any children.
